The ANTONI GAUDI designed longest catholic church construction in the world commencing in 1851 is hoping to be completed in 2026, a hundred years after Gaudi’s death.
I arrived just after the final two of the four Towers of the Evangelists were completed in Septemeber 2023 with the addition of figures representing a human bust and an eagle.
The size of the building is enormous and stands out as a land mark at pretty much any viewing platform around Barcellona. The level of detail in the outside walls is unbelievable and the multicoloured lights coming through the stained glass windows is captivating.
It’s a must see attraction if you’ve never been. Book online and arrive on time so you dont miss out. I booked through a tour company and the commentary was excellent.

IMHO had Gaudí lived the outlines would have been much softer and the surfaces far more detailed and intricate – just look at the Nativity Façade and contrast with the newer work. I mean, it's a tremendous effort and a fine tribute to the man but it is not Gaudí.
