Plaza de España and Templo de Debod, Madrid – Spain 4K Travel Channel

The Plaza de España lies approx. 300 m north of the Palacio Real. At our arrival it is already strongly frequented by Asian tourist groups . In the center of the former military training area you see a monument of Spain’s national poet Miguel de Cervantes, sitting in chair looking down on both of his fictional heros Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. The monument was designed by architects Rafael Martinez Zapatero and Pedro Muguruza. The sculptures were created by Lorenzo Coullaut Valera.
The square is dominated by the two high-rise buildings ,the Edificio Espana (built in 1953) and the Torre de Madrid (built in 1957). These were the first skyscrapers in Madrid and built by the sibling Julia and Joaquin Otamendi.
Again, 300 m further we visit the Temple of Debod in the Parque del Oeste (Western Park). The temple was part of the sanctuary of Philae, which lies about 8 km south of Aswan and was dedicated the goddess Isis and the young god Horus. It is an ancient Egyptian temple which was built by Ptolemy IV around 250 BC.
With the construction of the Aswan High Dam in 1960, the relocation of many archaeological sites was necessary. Egypt donated this temple to Spain, to thank for the great support in the rescue of Abu Simbel. It could be reopened in Madrid in 1972. It is one of the few examples of Ancient Egyptian architecture which can be inspected outside Egypt.
The Parque del Oeste is a large amusement park is in the west of Madrid which is often frequented after work. One has a beautiful view of the Palacio real and the Casa de Campo from here. Especially romantic couples and families enjoying the sunset from here. We do the same.

Der Platz liegt ca 300 m nördlich vom Palacio Real und ist bei unserem Eintreffen bereits stark von asiatischen Touristengruppen frequentiert.
Im Zentrum des ehemaligen Militärübungsplatzes steht das Denkmal von Spaniens Nationaldichter Miguel de Cervantes, der im Stuhl sitzend auf seine beiden Romanhelden Don Quijote und Sancho Panza herabsieht. Das Denkmal stammt von den Architekten Rafael Martinez Zapatero und Pedro Muguruza. Die Skulpturen wurden von Lorenzo Coullaut Valera gestaltet.
Dominiert wird der Platz aber durch die beiden Hochhäuser Edificio Espana (erbaut 1953) und dem Torre de Madrid (erbaut 1957). Es waren die ersten Hochhäuser Madrids und wurden von den Brüdern Julia und Joaquin Otamendi errichtet.
Wiederum 300 m weiter besuchen wir im Parque del Oeste (Westpark) den Tempel von Debod. Der hier aufgebaute Tempel war Teil des Heiligtums von Philae, ca. 8 km südlich von Assuan und war der Göttin Isis und dem jugendlichen Gott Horus geweiht. Es ist ein altägyptischer-unternubischer Tempel, der von Ptolemaios IV ca. 250 BC erbaut wurde.
Durch den Bau des Assuan Staudammes 1960 wurde die Verlegung vieler archäologischer Stätten notwendig. Anschließend schenkte Ägypten Spanien diesen Tempel für die große Unterstützung Spaniens bei der Rettung von Abu Simbel. In Madrid konnte er 1972 wiedereröffnet werden. Er ist eines der wenigen Beispiele altägyptischer Architektur, das außerhalb Ägyptens besichtigt werden kann.
Der Parque del Oeste ist ist ein riesiger Freizeitpark im Westen Madrids und wird gerne nach Feierabend frequentiert. Von hier aus hat man einen schönen Ausblick auf den Palacio Real und den Palacio Real. Besonders verliebte Pärchen und Familien genießen von hier aus den Sonnenuntergang. Wir schließen uns jenen an.
