Qué ver en RONDA, Málaga, Andalucía 🇪🇸 Guía España

Welcome to Ronda! Travel companions, we are still in the province of Malaga, and we are going to a charming place. I promise you that it will not disappoint you, and that you will want to include it in your next visit to Spain. Welcome to Ronda!

I’m sure you’ve seen photos of a spectacular bridge in Ronda on Instagram. But the truth is that although the place is magical and impressive, it is not the only thing that Ronda has to offer. Are you ready? We are going to visit Ronda through the accompanied camera of Europe. Let’s start!

Ronda is a municipality and city in Spain located northwest of Malaga, and belonging to Andalusia. The city sits on a plateau cut by a deep gorge excavated by the Guadalevín river, which overlooks the buildings of its historic center,

Which gives the city a picturesque and incomparable view, which we are going to discover today. Although in one day it is possible that you can see much of what Ronda has to offer, my advice is to spend a night, a walk after dark will make us fall in love with all its

Illuminated monuments, in fact there is a free night tour of Ronda, which we believe should be a very good option. Shall we start with traveling companions? Let’s start with the most recognized of Ronda, and then discover that it actually has much more to offer We start with the New Bridge

If you have ever thought of traveling to Ronda I have no doubt that the image that has appeared before your eyes has been that of the New Bridge linking the deep canyon, the Tajo de Ronda. So we crossed the Plaza España and headed towards the bridge.

It is a bridge that we recommend seeing from all perspectives, since you have views of it from several sides. And along with the views of it, comes also the magnificent images of the Tagus.

Built between 1751 and 1793, it joins the historical and modern areas of the city by crossing the Tajo de Ronda, a gorge carved out by the Guadalevín River. This new bridge, as we said, is the most emblematic monument of the city of Ronda

That is why you will see lots of tourists looking for photos from various points, …and as we said, try to go turning, and crossing from one side to the another, going down, going to the viewpoints, because you will always get different views of the same

As we said it was inaugurated in 1793, and until 1839 it was the highest bridge in the world with a height of 98 meters In addition to achieving all possible views of it , you have the possibility to enter the bridge.

In the upper part, there are the rooms of the bridge that, in other times, were used as a prison, later it functioned as an inn and currently, it is an interpretation center of the environment and the history of the city. In 1735 the first bridge was built, which collapsed six years later

And it was not until 1751 when it was decided to undertake the construction of this new bridge . The entrance fee is €2, which is purchased right there and it is a short visit. In my opinion, it is not something that I think is worth doing. The promised views at night

Just for these moments, it was already worth spending the night in Ronda It’s late, and we entertain ourselves taking pictures with that sun that hits the buildings in such a particular way, but our steps take us to the house of the Rey Moro

To arrive before it closes and be able to go down to the water mine from the Nasrid era. Casa del Rey Moro and water mine The Casa del Rey Moro is a monumental complex, which is made up of three parts, a water mine from the Muslim era,

A neo-Mudejar style house, and a garden declared of cultural interest. We can visit the garden and the mine. Upon entering we take a walk through the garden, the views from it are very beautiful,

Although we had not gone with the idea of seeing the garden, it turned out to be a very nice tour The entrance fee is €8, as I always leave you schedules and other information on the blog, since we added a link to the official page.

In truth, our interest was aroused by the water mine, and we went there after the mine. The water mine is one of the main works of hydraulic engineering built in the Nasrid Kingdom during the 14th century. Currently, it is the best preserved in Andalusia.

It is a work that descends to the bottom of the Tagus where the Guadalevín River flows. It was built taking advantage of a vertical natural crack where a staircase with more than 200 steps develops and descends vertically for about one hundred meters. Inside there are a series of rooms, from cisterns to rooms,

Which were used as powder kegs and grain deposits. Throughout the descent you are thinking: what will this be on the way up! but then it was not so bad. In any case, keep in mind that there are more than 200 steps, and as you will see it is a somewhat enclosed place,

It may not be to your liking to do this route. For my part I tell you that I loved it. When you finish descending, take your time, enjoy the views and the peace that is perceived down there. When they reach the bottom they find a small metal platform,

From where they have views of the bottom of the pit and that very green water. A very quiet place, that we had to enjoy it alone. As I was saying, if you are up for the many steps, it is a descent that in my opinion is worth doing.

As I always tell you, we all have different tastes, I leave my opinion, in this and in all cases, and the images for you to decide But hey, the moment of relaxation is over and we have to start the climb….. We start this morning in Ronda from Puerta de Almocábar .

It was built in the 13th century and modified during the time of Carlos V. In front of the door, we find the Plaza de San Francisco. But we stayed in the old town to walk through its streets and part of the wall.

Later we will tell you and show you which was the accommodation chosen by us to stay in Ronda. On our way we come across some churches, in this case, very close to the gate and wall we see the Church of the Holy Spirit.

The Church of the Holy Spirit was erected by the Catholic Monarchs on top of the mosque that was in the Arrabal Alto. We continue walking through these beautiful and ancient streets, until we reach Plaza Duquesa de Parcent.

The Plaza Duquesa de Parcent de Ronda is a large urban space that is located in the “la Ciudad” neighborhood. In the Arab era, this square included the most representative buildings of the Madinat: the Great Mosque, the Zoco, the Jail and the Alcázar. Today it is a set of monuments that attract our attention.

It was enlarged at the end of the s. XIX as we find it today. In this Plaza Mayor we find the Town Hall, the Church of Santa María la Mayor, the Courts, the Church of Mª Auxiliadora located in the old ruins of the Castillo de Laurel,

The church Convento Santa Isabel de los Ángeles and the Iglesia de la Caridad We are going to another of the visits that can be made in Ronda… The Arab baths The hamman or bath of Ronda is one of the best preserved in the Iberian Peninsula.

This site is located next to the Arab Bridge and next to the old Arrabal Bajo, currently called the San Miguel neighborhood. The cost of admission is €4.5. We leave the information about schedules on the blog

It is a quick but nice walk to do, if you like this type of construction it will surely catch your attention, although it is not essential. We now start a walk towards the Old Bridge. We get these views towards the Old Bridge from the Arab or Roman Bridge.

When we get to the old one, we’ll do the reverse and show you this one, where we’re standing now. The construction of the Old Bridge had the same causes as those that motivated the last one; that is, to connect the old Islamic medina with the new neighborhood

That emerged after the conquest of the city in the Mercadillo area, and which is now known as the Padre Jesús neighborhood. Although the bridge is not so spectacular, what is most captivating is the walk towards it. Puerta de Felipe v After the collapse of the first new bridge in 1741

, the need to improve this entrance to the city was raised due to the large flow of people and goods that were once again forced to use it. The old Arab Gate of the bridge was replaced and enlarged by the current one during the reign of the first Bourbon of the Spanish throne

Felipe V in the year 1742, according to the inscription on the stone located next to the gate. And from here we get the views towards the Arab or Roman Bridge, which we were just leaving the Arab Baths. Popularly known as Puente Romano, there is nothing to reveal such origin.

That said, the plus of the night is enjoyed very much. The tour will take us to cross the old bridge, both during the day and at night, and continue our steps in the streets of the Padre Jesús neighborhood to admire its church and the fountain of the eight pipes,

But not before looking back to see the image of the old bridge with the gate of Felipe V. As you will see, we made some points of tourist interest that were paid, but in reality the greatest charm is to walk a lot around Ronda, prepare comfortable shoes and walk!

We continue through its streets and go to the Plaza del Socorro. The Plaza del Socorro is located in the urban center of the new area of the city. It is one of the most emblematic squares of the town, and also one of the busiest.

But, to continue with the walk that we still have more places to discover. We go through Plaza España again, then through the Plaza de Toros de Ronda. We see the Plaza de Toros from the outside, although it is emblematic of the city, we did not enter it.

It is something that we do not like, therefore we avoid entering. We are going to another place and now to show you the chosen accommodation. We take our steps to the Plaza de la Merced.

We found here the Church of Our Lady of Mercy and very close to the Hotel Colón where we stayed The hotel is very simple, but the attention is very good, they were very attentive to us, the continental breakfast is in the bar that is right there .

In the month of October we paid €60 for the double room with breakfast. It is well located and if you are not looking for luxury it is a good option. We are going to finish this route in the Alameda del Tajo, with the viewpoint towards the tajo. A walk that is worth doing.

The Alameda del Tajo is a tree-lined promenade that dates back to the beginning of the 19th century. It is located next to the Plaza de Toros and next to the Tajo cornice, so the views are beautiful. A picture is worth a thousand words.

And on this walk, with these views, we end our tour of Ronda. I told you at the beginning that along with the magnificent New Bridge it had more things to offer? I guess now, you will agree with me. Travel companions, if you liked the video, but mainly if it helped you,
