San Sebastián del Oeste | Mexico | Travel Guide 🇲🇽

If you want to get away from the beach and surf for a weekend and explore Jalisco’s mountains, valleys, rivers, and beautiful landscapes, we recommend visiting one of the picturesque towns around Puerto Vallarta, which offer a variety of options for a quick trip. San Sebastián, 47 miles away, is one of the best options. San Sebastián del Oeste is a village made up of ancient haciendas and century-old homes that have aged gracefully along with the surrounding mines and fields, filled with a valuable legacy of tradition and history, and has been known as Real de San Sebastián and later San Sebastian del Oeste since 1983. From among fog and behind mountains smell, wet earth and coal in the brazier, the first traces of its mountain architecture are revealed, which, stained with red tile on its gabled roofs, little by little reveals its white facades with terracotta stripes. The mining trade is still active in the town. It is possible to locate goldsmiths and jewelers who are enthusiastic about silver who create unique pieces with opal and obsidian that are meticulously engraved so that tourists who buy them may take a piece of San Sebastián Del Oeste, Jalisco, and show it off to the rest of the world. The Parroquia of San Sebastián Mártir, the town’s patron saint, stands out in downtown, just off the main plaza. Inside, a dramatic aquamarine color contrasts with the light blue and pastel pink quarry pillars and vaults. This combination is far from daring, since it contrasts with their houses’ uniform exteriors. If you have free time, walk through its streets and admire the balconies, or take a walk along its stone bridge and smell the fragrances of pine trees, oaks, and capomos while breathing fresh mountain air. If you look carefully, you’ll see hawks flying into the forest, and you’ll probably hear coyotes howling at night. Fauna is a part of the environment of San Sebastián del Oeste.
