It’s the oldest royal palace still in use today in Europe (the upper levels of the Alcázar are for the royal family, their official residence in Seville).
Built originally in the 10th century and then rebuilt a few times from the Middle Ages until now, the Alcázar is a work of art representing centuries of Spain’s changing culture.
The palace is a preeminent example of Mudéjar architecture in Spain. The Mudéjar style is resplendent with distinct horseshoe arches, decorative tiling, embellished domes, and attractive courtyards and gardens.
HBO’s Game of Thrones filmed scenes around the gardens of Real Alcázar.
