Plaza de España is a square in Madrid, Spain. It has been the center of the city for over 200 years. The plaza was designed and built by architect Francisco de Villanueva in 1738. The Plaza de España contains two buildings: the Royal Palace (Palacio Real) and the Royal Opera House (Real Teatro).
The Plaza de Espana is a popular place to visit. as it’s also the site of many important historical moments. In fact, during the Spanish Civil War of 1936-1939, General Francisco Franco used the plaza as his headquarters.
The shopping mall located in Plaza de España was opened in 1968 and has over 1,000 stores and restaurants. The name Plaza de España comes from the fact that it’s located on Plaza Mayor (the largest plaza in Madrid).
There are a number of important buildings around Plaza de España including the Royal Palace of La Moncloa, Palacio Real de Oriente (the palace of the Spanish monarchs), and Palacio Real del Pardo (the palace that houses the presidential offices).
Madrid is the capital of Spain and the country’s largest city. It’s home to one of Europe’s most famous soccer teams, Real Madrid C.F., which plays in El Bernabeu stadium. The team has won an astounding 32 European titles since it was founded in 1902, making it the most decorated club in European football history.
In Madrid, they have a saying that goes: ‘The best places in the world are either new or old’. This is because the city has been continuously inhabited since the Neolithic era and has many historical sites to explore.
A good place for history buffs would be Plaza Mayor, which has been used as a meeting point for citizens throughout history. It was where King Alfonso XIII was welcomed during his visit from Belgium in 1910 when he first took up residence in Spain.
For foodies, there are many restaurants and bars around Plaza Mayor, especially El Rastro (the covered market) which serves traditional Spanish cuisine like paella while La Latina offers more modern dishes like pasta and pizza. There’s also Bodega del Mediodía (a wine bar), Las Letras Libres bookstore and Café de Oriente café with its tasty pastries and sandwiches. For those who enjoy shopping, there are several boutiques along Calle Castellana that sell vintage clothes and accessories at affordable prices.
