Backpacking & Hiking Sequoia Kings Canyon National Parks Big SEKI Loop (northern half) JMT, a 9 day journey through light and waterfalls. John Muir Trail in 4k 60fps. Sierra Nevada Range, California.

This is a video from a 9 day backpacking loop doing the northern half of the BIG SEKI LOOP in Sequoia Kings Canyon National Park the summer of 2020. We start from Roads End and go over Granite Pass, down to Middle Fork of Kings River and up to the JMT at Palisade Creek. We follow the JMT up the Golden Staircase and over Mather and Pinchot Pass, down Woods Creek and over Rae Lakes and Glen Pass, to exit down Bubbs Creek back to Roads End again. Finishing with half of the Rae Lakes Loop. A stunning trip in amazing conditions with scenery as beautiful as any you will ever see. Truly a journey through the range of light.

  1. My grandparents were from Germany and Austria. They taught me something’s about Denmark’s. Must of had relatives from Denmark for my first name is of the Danish spelling Michigan

  2. pinkze he say " sorry I have not commented on any of your videos in a while. I watch your videos every day on my breaks at work without fail. This escape from every day life i find in your videos is utter fantasticness ! I love your attention to detail- spotting all of nature as you trail, the soundtrack which fades in and out and I love your enthusiasm which I totally get as who would not love this ! I would really like your opinion on my channel if you get chance. I understand if not, as after all you are probably on some beautiful trail somewhere….🚶‍♂️take care Jarl "

  3. Some beautiful footage you got there. I think Sequoia Kings Canyon National Park is officially my favorite park but I love all of the Sierras. I miss California so much.

  4. I enjoyed this!!! Watching in 4k just makes me feel I hitched a ride on your shoulders!!! 😊 You also helped provide the visuals I needed for a school paper!

  5. The color of the water and rivers are so clear it is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful the flowers ,mountains ,trees, animals, wow what a stunning undescribable video thank you thank you thank your thank .

  6. Amazing video and very in depth. I was wondering how many miles total was the northern half of your loop and what was the daily mile average? Your response would be great for my research of the Big Seki.

  7. I really appreciate the way you set up your shots. I can't imagine putting a camera in front of me or behind me hundreds of feet to set up these scenes (if I was that tired – and I would be tired : )

  8. So so beautiful! Thanks a lot for sharing with us ! Why you have such a huge packbag ? Would you share with us your experience of packing for such a hard hiking, and where to find water!

  9. It would be more fun if you share about your cooking , what should we pack( food and drink) for a long hiking trip!
    Thanks again!

  10. I've just discovered your channel a few weeks ago & I just love the footage. I recently have come down w/an Illness & stuck inside & watching your Vids almost 24 7, I find they are so relaxing & combing. If I were a little younger & healthier I would love to do this. I'm an Introvert so I could easily hike for days & not see people & would be fine lol. Love the music so fitting w/scenery and always @ the right time. Thank you so much

  11. Once more I remain speechless considering such a magnificence, a wild nature, not harmed by any human pollution. What a grandeur ! – Don't you never loose your orientation, Jarl, choosing a direction without finding a trail ? – Many thanks to let me participate at this spectacular hiking-experience, it is if I sat on your shoulder !
As I have never been in America, it's an amazing discovery……

  12. G'day from Queensland Australia.
An exellent work on the vedio and nice music. I am compleatly amazed how well the path has been maintained for hikers and though the terrain looks rough, it looks like most people with resonble good fitness can do the hike. I am going to start hiking again after we reopen and i ve got my gear together. So rewarding don't you agree ?.
    Gerard.

  13. I am late to the party. Just found your channel.
Really enjoyed thre video. Well filmed and edited. I really like it is not only 2-3 sec clips.
You seem to hike with ease although your backpack is quite big. Do yoo recall the weight when you started ( you had 9 days of food in it I guess)?
Thank you for the effort of doing this (especially all the going back and forth).

  14. Outstanding view. I wish I were there ….thousands mile from here, Indonesia. We have similar view like this….on the creator of mnt. RINJANI in Lombok, Indonesia. Thanks for sharing your beautiful footage.

  15. Hey Jarl, I just completed the South Lake-North Lake Loop last week (7 days). Just got it in before the big snows. Incredible. Now to get my feet wet with video editing. Sheesh-

  16. 9 days? how heavy is that pack on day 1?? 😅😅 this saturday I have a 8 day food carry out of Yosemite valley up illilouette, reds peak pass to toulome where I will pick up my resupply at the meadows post office/general store. then doing 6 days on another loop back to the valley. set up to fish every day. with my fishing gear, 8 days of food plus the bear canister I'm at 37 pounds. I could have shed 2 pound's using my summer bag but many nights will be at 9000-1000 feet so opted for my warmer bag.
just my luck there is a forest fire in the southern part of the park and into sequia national forest as well. the southern entrance to Yosemite at wawona is closed but the rest remain open. I will be able to get in but the air quality will not but optimal. it was smoked out from fires when I was out there last year as well. horrible for pictures but the fishing will be spectacular.
    as always an amazing video.

  17. One of the clearest, sharpest, vivid… the list goes on… videos I have ever watched. Truely nailed it! Great job my friend. Epic beauty!

  18. outstanding video! The fact that you don't mention your two hiking companions is odd. No group trip is successful by one member. Is this about you at the expense of the group??

  19. pinkze he say " I would sincerely like to thank you again Jarl, this video and your others really give me an inspiring escape from daily work and stresses and strains of everyday life "

  20. pinkze he say " I've seen the rest but always come back to the best ! Love your videos with Joey and Catherine also. Such a great escape, thank you as always "

  21. pinkze he say " I watch this time and time again, it never ceases to amaze me ! I remember as a kid, I had a 3d viewer with national parks in the USA 🇺🇸 this always reminds me, so thanks yet again Jarl ! "

  22. Thanks for posting this Jarl! Of course the whole hike was spectacular, but days 4 and 5 stood out for me. Especially Palisade Basin was so gorgeous. It kind of reminds me of Titcomb Basin in the Wind River Range with its numerous alpine lakes as well.
