Playa de Formentor is a beautiful blue flag beach along the coast of Formentor at the northeastern tip of the island and about 10 kilometers from Puerto de Pollensa. It is considered one of the 20 best beaches in Mallorca. Amidst one of the wildest and most spectacular landscapes of the island, dominated by dense pine forests and offering impressive views of the Tramuntana Mountains, the narrow beach of Formentor is about 1 kilometer long, with white sand and sparkling blue-green water. The pine trees at the back of the beach provide pleasant shade on hot days. Playa de Formentor is especially popular with vacationers who also want to see Cap de Formentor, the most remote tip of the island with a lighthouse and great views. On clear days you can even see as far as Menorca from here.

The beach is divided into three areas, each of which has its own prices for sunbeds and umbrellas, which can increase quite a bit during the high season. There are also showers and toilets on site. Despite its length, there is not a lot of sand on this narrow beach and it can get quite crowded. Due to the shallow water and few waves, the beach is also ideal for small children. In some places it can get a bit rocky, but in general the entrance to the water is very pleasant. All age groups are represented here, because the beauty and tranquility of this beach are appreciated by young and old. You can rent pedal boats, surfboards and SUP boards, but they do not dominate the sea and always leave enough space for swimmers and snorkelers.

There are two souvenir stores as well as two restaurants on the beach, one of which is more of a self-service bar with snacks and the other a more upscale restaurant where you can get beach fare like pizza, burgers and fish.

Here you will find the best accommodations on the Balearic island right by the sea.

Playa de Formentor is easily accessible by car. But be prepared for high parking costs, which can reach up to 15 euros per day in summer. Cyclists and hikers also like to come here, as the area holds some great trails for both sports. Since there is a narrow, unpaved path between the parking lot and the beach, wheelchair access is difficult, but not impossible. And the surrounding trees right on the beach offer shady places to sit. Or come by bus via Puerto de Pollensa, which stops at the entrance to the parking lot.

Due to the depth of the water and the sandy bottom, you can also anchor well by boat.

During high season, there is a lifeguard on site from 10am-6pm.

Playa de Formentor is one of the most prestigious blue flag beaches in Mallorca and takes great care to maintain its status as a clean and environmentally friendly beach.

Playa de Formentor is a great beach for water sports. Apart from swimming and snorkeling, there are several water sports available such as pedal boats, SUP boards, surfboards, kayaks and water skiing. You can also rent a small sailboat or a catamaran, or take a glass-bottom boat tour. And the surrounding area with its pine forests and hilly landscape is perfect for walking and exploring.

Restaurants at the Playa de Formentor

There are two restaurants here on the beach. The beach bar, L’Espigo, is very relaxed and family-friendly, offering mostly simple fare like sandwiches and burgers that you can eat on site or on the beach. La Varanda restaurant is a bit further down the beach and is a bit more upscale in terms of prices and service. The food offerings include some Mallorcan dishes as well as fish, pizza, and burgers. If you knock off the sand and throw on something pretty, you’ll get a special lunch at Hotel Formentor. The hotel is one of the oldest on the island and has a long tradition as a retreat for artists and aristocrats. You’ll definitely find an excellent dining experience here.

The Hotel Formentor is located directly on the beach. Since it opened in 1930, it has hosted many famous visitors, including Charlie Chaplin, Winston Churchill, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. If your wallet allows, this exclusive, all-suite hotel with direct beach access is a lovely option. Hotel Formentor is scheduled to reopen in 2023 after an extensive renovation.

  3. This is an extremely beautiful location. I read your description and it sounds like a heavenly paradise of a place to vacation. Great footage showcasing this wonderful spot 🤩😎👍
