#LaSagradaFamília #Barcelona #SagradaFamíliaTour
Having been to Barcelona multiple times, I’d never actually been inside La Sagrada Família. It’s possibly the most famous cathedral in the world and definitely one of the most famous attractions in Barcelona. I’d been told multiple times that the inside was just as good as the spectacular outside, but you have to book the tour in advance (which isn’t my speciality).
So this time, we booked our audio tour tickets for 26 euros each, in advance and managed to get inside to see what all the hype was about! You can pick up your tickets here: https://sagradafamilia.org/en/tickets.
Also, download the audio guide before you get into the basilica because reception isn’t great inside.
A bit of background information:
Antoni Gaudí’s Sagrada Família is in the Eixample district in Barcelona, Spain. Gaudí started working on the project in 1883 and after over 135 years of construction…..it’s still under construction and should be finished in the next decade.
Gaudí was famous for a number of things, one of which was his ability to take inspiration from nature which can be seen throughout La Sagrada Família. He was a visionary architect and his influence can be felt throughout Barcelona, not just in La Sagrada Familia but also Parc Güell, Casa Milà and many more.
In terms of the tour itself. Was it worth going inside La Sagrada Família? Absolutely.
The audio tour gives you information that you otherwise probably wouldn’t know. It’s split into three main areas:
1. The history of the Basilica and explanation of the Nativity Façade
2. The interior of the basilica, including the Forest, the stained glass windows and the crypt.
3. The Passion Façade and other areas of La Sagrada Família
As I say in the video (albeit with poor audio), it’s really interesting to see how the stained glass windows give off different light to represent sunrise and sunset. Also, whilst most people prefer the Nativity Façade to the Passion Façade, the audio guide explains why the Passion Façade is harsher, more brutal and therefore potentially not as pleasing to the eye.
Finally, a few of our group didn’t realise that the ticket also gets you entry to the museum as well. I’d highly recommend taking the time to visit the museum because it gives you even more background on the design and building of the cathedral, as well as some more detail on its history.
It really is a must see tourist attraction if you’re visiting Barcelona.
