All the great Spanish French and even British explorers were basque or had basque crews. Always been excellent sailors, it’s also why they’ve never really been a poor people.
Good episode. Really enjoyed it. I have been around Spain a bit, but never San Sebastian. Looks nice. I also like the gritty quality of the show and its production. A bit guerilla and grass roots.

This will be my first episode I've watched since his death. Honestly I almost took it personally the way he left us since he was such a good person to look up to. I miss him soo much.
He and this shows were so great. It's sad that his cameramen were so medicre. They probably made up for it in loyality and reliability, sometimes more important than talent.
I've been to San Sebastian many times. My favourite place to eat was always dockside by the port. The seafood was as fresh as you can find, the preparation was simple but careful. and the atmosphere fully relaxed. One of the best meals I ever ate was gambas a la plancha – and I had dinner at the Tour d'Argent.

You look back at these earliest incarnations on video of Anthony…you see his least "I'm Anthony Bourdain" personality. He was a provocateur with verbal panache–a writer with Chef's "chops"…proud, charming, reserved but with his hair let down (figuratively!!). Someone who probably had a vulnerability to being made look foolish at the height of his fame. Opposites colliding, and I think it was too much for him. A nerve had been not just touched, but messed deeply with.
But I prefer to look back at the times he was enjoying the ride, with his youthful optimism still intact–even in his mid 40's.
Very few deaths have ever moved me in such a deep profound lost. Anthony Bourdain took all of us fans on a road trip of our senses in ways only Anthony could being so transparent, pure unadulterated joy to feed our souls in a way simply no amount of food can ever fill. His shows captivated us with a real sense of community and deep friendships made so beautifully enriched by the narrative of a friend, even more a family member of which you can never, ever have enough more. He kept us wanting more, craving the next adventure not of a tourist but a traveler. I miss you so incredibly much Anthony Bourdain, How I/We enjoyed those beautiful adventures done in a way of a true gentleman, a diplomat of us all inquiring but most importantly displaying what food really can and is a connective way of uniting humanity in all of what can be the foremost best that we can offer when we're not busy making wars and instead of celebrating our common thread that unites us for a peaceful and happy world. Again Anthony You'll always, always will be missed by all. May You always forever more Rest In Peace. It was my honor to have been privileged to your essence for food but furthermore our World.
My mouth is watering. Boudin noir ravioli, OMG. Add some txakolí, the local sparkling white, and chow down. I did well in Bilbao but hit San Sebastian on Good Friday and had to get out town for the crowds and parking. I shall return.
