Welcome to the caves in Coves d’Artà .
Coves d’Artà is a stalactite cave system on the east coast of the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca. Coves d’Artà has a large staircase to the caves, and is about 50 meters above sea level, from where there is also an excellent view of the bay of Canyamel. A well-marked road leads north above the village to the parking lot at the cave entrance. The caves are located in the village of Capdepera, east of the village of Canyamel. Coves d’Artà is located on the southern side of the Cap Vermell peninsula, not far from Platja de Canyamel and the tourist resort of Canyamel. The Artà cave is also called otherwise (Castilian: Cuevas de Artá “Art’s caves”) or Coves de s’Ermità. The name Coves d’Artà comes from before 1858, when Capdepera was not an independent municipality, but belonged to the territory of Artà together with Son Servera. The coves of Coves d’Artà are, together with Coves del Drac and Coves dels Hams, the most famous cave system in the east of Mallorca, in the Llevant region (Comarca). While the other two caves are located near the town of Porto Cristo, the “Caves of Artà” are located further to the northeast, about 15 kilometers from them.
