Founded by the mythical Hercules, Seville became one of the main cities on the Iberian Peninsula thanks to Julius Caesar. Its monuments from the Moslem period include the Almohad city walls, the “Torre del Oro”, and the spectacular Alcazar, an old Moorish fortified palace.
Inside the Alcazar, the different courtyards, halls, and gardens bring together a great variety of artistic styles, the result of the different enlargements carried out during its 11 centuries of history.
The Cathedral, World’s largest Gothic structure and the third biggest in the world, preserves architectural remains which belong to the old Moslem mosque, such as the Courtyard of the Orange Trees or the Door of Forgiveness.
