A fascinating night stroll through Palma de Mallorca on Av. de Gabriel Roca.
Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma.
The construction of La Seu began soon after the liberation of Mallorca from the Moors, in 1230 by King Jaime I of Aragon, on the ruins of an earlier mosque. It was continued under his son, King Jaime II of Mallorca, and in 1302 the main building of the cathedral was laid. It was also to serve as a tomb for the kings of Mallorca – the remains of Jaime II and Jaime III rest in the cathedral. Construction was largely completed by 1587, with the main portal of La Seu completed in 1601. In 1882 work began on the main façade of the cathedral, which was completed in the early 20th century. The great organ was created by Gabriel Thomas of Mallorca at the end of the 18th century (restored in 1993).
