The three most picturesque villages of the Alpujarra are set in the stunning Poqueira Gorge. They are the gateway to the Sierra Nevada National Park and a great base for hikers, horse-back riding, cycling, regional foods and crafts. The area is a UNESCO biosphere reserve.

The Moors extended and maintained the acequia system over the 800 years of their stay, but I thought the Romans started it off, or maybe even the Carthaginians before them…

Nice video, very impressive. I have traveled the south extensively walking most of the peaks and trails. I have been to the 3 villages of the Poqueira on 4 separate occasions and have to say that they are probably some of the best, most relaxing places I have been to. I stayed in Capileira all the time as my base up to the Sierra Nevada. Beautiful area and very peaceful walking area.

Great video… I stayed in Capileira back in 2008, had 5 fantastic days walking and also walked up Mulhacen.
